Meet Our New Nutrition Coach: Tara DelloIacono, RDN
At Truckee Sports Camp, we're always looking for new ways to help kids grow—not just as athletes, but as healthy, confident, and resilient young people.
That's why we're excited to welcome Tara DelloIacono, RDN, to our coaching team this summer! Tara will be joining us on Thursdays, through July.
Tara is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, sports nutrition expert, and founder of The Flexibly Fit Nutrition Collective. Before moving to Truckee with her family in 2017, Tara spent more than 20 years leading the nutrition department at Clif Bar & Company. Today, she works with food companies across the country to help improve the nutritional quality of products and make healthier options more accessible for families.
Tara brings decades of experience working with everyone from recreational athletes and active families to elite endurance competitors. Her passion is helping people understand how nutrition impacts energy, performance, recovery, and overall health.
What we love most about Tara's approach is that it's practical, positive, and grounded in science. No food shaming. No restrictive diets. No gimmicks. Just evidence-based guidance that helps kids build a healthy relationship with food while supporting their active lifestyles.
New This Summer: "Eat Like an Athlete"
Tara will be leading our new six-week nutrition education series called **Eat Like an Athlete**, designed specifically for campers ages 7–14.
Each week, campers will participate in a fun, interactive 20-minute lesson that teaches the basics of sports nutrition in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
What Campers Will Learn
* Why food is fuel for sports, play, and everyday life
* How carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats help athletes perform
* What to eat before and after physical activity
* The importance of hydration, especially during hot summer days
* How vitamins and minerals support strong bones, healthy muscles, and recovery
* How to build balanced meals and snacks that support active lifestyles
Our Philosophy
The goal of this program isn't to create perfect eaters. It's to help kids understand how nutrition supports feeling strong, energetic, and confident.
Throughout the program we focus on:

Learn why carbohydrates are an athlete's primary energy source.
Week 3: Protein: Your Repair Crew**
Discover how protein helps muscles recover and grow stronger.
Week 4: Hydration: Water is a Superpower**
Understand how proper hydration supports energy, focus, and performance.
Week 5: Vitamins, Minerals & Colorful Eating**
Explore how eating a variety of colorful foods helps every system in the body work better.
Week 6: Put It On Your Plate**
Bring everything together and learn how to build balanced meals and snacks.
